3.15. Investments Calculation Engine - PCAF (Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials)

The 3.15. Investments Calculation Engine is designed to help banks and investors assess the carbon footprint of their investments, following the standards set by the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF). PCAF provides a globally recognized framework for financial institutions to measure and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with their investment portfolios. Below, you will find detailed guidance on how to utilize this calculation engine.

### **What is PCAF?**

PCAF is a global standard developed for banks, insurance companies, and investment firms to quantify and report the GHG emissions resulting from their portfolios. It offers specific methodologies for various asset classes such as equities, bonds, real estate, and project finance, providing guidelines on how to determine the carbon footprint associated with each.

### **Data Entry Overview:**

**Investment Information:**

* **Investment Type:** Select from different types of investments such as equities, bonds, real estate, or project finance.
* **Investment Amount:** Enter the invested amount or the value of the investment, which will serve as the basis for calculating emissions.
* **Company or Project Information:** Provide the name, industry, and other relevant details of the company or project in which the investment is made.
* **Industry:** Specify the industry of the investee company.

**Emission Data:**

* **Direct Emissions (Scope 1 and 2):** Input the reported direct and indirect emissions from the investee company or project.
* **Indirect Emissions (Scope 3):** Include emissions resulting from the investee company’s supply chain, product use, or other indirect sources.

**Attribution Percentage:**

* **Attribution Method:** Use PCAF’s attribution methods to calculate the portion of emissions associated with your investment. This is usually based on the percentage of the total portfolio or the proportion of shares held.

**Calculation Engine:**

**Data Aggregation:**

The calculation engine aggregates all the entered data according to the type of investment and attribution percentage.

**Emission Calculation:**

Emissions attributed to the investor are calculated based on the direct and indirect emissions from the invested assets (companies, projects, etc.). PCAF methodology provides specific calculation methods for each asset class, ensuring accurate and reliable emission measurements.

**Reporting:**

The calculated emissions are presented in detailed reports and visualizations that provide insights into the carbon footprint of your investment portfolio. These reports are crucial for managing sustainability goals and making informed investment decisions.

**Best Practices:**

* **Accurate Data Entry:** Ensure that all data related to your investments is accurate and up-to-date. Correct application of the PCAF methodology is essential for precise emission calculations.
* **Comprehensive Reporting:** Generate reports that cover all asset classes to gain a thorough understanding of the total emissions from your portfolio.
* **Continuous Monitoring:** Regularly monitor emissions from your portfolio and adjust your sustainability strategy accordingly.
